Career Ramblings

Since we have been receiving a few resumes each day I have noticed some common trends. I’ve seen fonts of all sizes, margin inconsistencies, age and place of birth on a few. These are all major no-no’s when writing your resumes. Follow these basic steps and you’ll be off to a good start:

• No grammatical errors
• Neat in appearance (you can’t beat a clean looking resume)
• Font size should between 10 and 14 point (please, anything smaller than 10 and you’ll have the old timers really working)
• Use standard type fonts such as Arial, or Times New Roman (Avoid fancy font, it’s harder to navigate through)
• About 1″ margins all around (varies with the amount of content you have and the formatting of it)
• Be honest and truthful (there is a chance you might be questioned on the info you provide)
• Have someone proofread your resume (we can help, and who knows, we might even refer you to a company)
• Use a chronological format (most recent experience first)
• Try to keep it to 1 page, but if you have relevant experience then 2 pages is ok
