Market Research: Look Into The Company First, part I

Large consumer-products companies wouldn’t think about introducing a new product to a market without first doing extensive research about customer’s preferences and demographic profile. Likewise, as a professional, you need to gather as much information as possible about the companies that intrigue you before you develop your resume, cover letter, application packet and especially before you interview. You are going to be investing a healthy amount of time and energy into applying for positons; you might as well do it right so that your first job application and interview are hit.

Avoid deciding on a single company early in your job search and wedding yourself to working at that specific company. If you are a recent graduate, you should look at what interests you have and what you can see yourself doing for 40 to 50 hours a week. What type of company do you want to work for? A small private start up where you get to know every single person at the company and an occasional family member? Or are you interested in working for a big Fortune 500 company that has multiple divisions, hundreds of emplyees, and having an unlimited potential of how high you go. That’s a question you’ll have to ask yourself.

Rich Dad Says: “Be smarter than they are, do your research.”
