You have the ability to be successful. Regardless of your previous experience, intelligence, or education, everyone has the ability to become successful. What usually will hold someone back are the obstacles and boundaries, both emotional and physical, and once many people have encountered them they don’t usually bounce back.
The definition of success is having a favorable outcome, or having obtained something desired or intended. For many people, this refers to wealth and status.
For others, it can mean getting married or having children. Many people don’t experience their personal version of success because they are afraid of rejection or failure. For example, launching a venture carries an inherent element of risk that prevents many people from reaching their full potential. As a result, the venture doesn’t get launched.
For someone to truly be successful, they need a few things:
- Self belief. You need to believe in yourself and what you’re trying to accomplish. There will be times when it seems as if the world is against you, and you will need to be able to motivate yourself to continue to movie forward.
- Belief in the cause. This is important in maintaining a positive self belief, as it will help keep them motivated and focused. Never lose sight of your goals and the end result.
- A reasonable idea of what can be achieved. Seeking to make billions in a few years is a very unrealistic goal, whereas seeking to become debt free in a few years is not. Set your goals based on what you actually have a chance of accomplishing.
Along with those three things, a successful person also knows how to prioritize. Knowing what’s important and what’s not ensures that you stay on track, and that you pursue what’s the most important to you. If your idea of success is having a family, you may work hard to purchase your first home or to save some money.
But, along with all of the hard and dedicated work that you are doing, you also need to know when to have fun and relax. Pushing to be successful can be extremely stressful, and how you manage stress will dictate how you react during these stressful times. This comes back to knowing what’s important (worth stressing out about), and knowing what’s not important.
Lastly, taking advantage of new opportunities as they arise is a key element in personal success. Look at all of the people that refused to believe that the internet would revolutionize the world, and yet is now a trillion dollar per year economy. Imagine if society had embraced its abilities a decade sooner…
Your success is a result of your efforts, not the product of society or stature. Don’t let the opportunities pass you by.
